I know a lot about plants, and I think that they are fantastic! I also think that the human body is fantastic, but unfortunately we don’t always look after our fantastic bodies. We eat too much, we don’t move around enough, and we get tired and sick.
I have been on a career break for the last few years looking after my children, and have found this to be the single most challenging and exhausting thing that I have ever done. I have needed to look after myself, as well as my family, in the best way possible. There have been times when I have wanted to lose some weight, but more importantly have the energy to get through the day. I couldn’t simply get more rest, my only option was to eat well and get on with it. Through this I have decided that the best thing that I could do was to eat plants!
Plants are full of vitamins, and they also contain masses of other beneficial nutrients that even the scientists don’t fully understand. What we do know is that people that eat more vegetables, live longer, healthier lives. I think that we should definitely eat less processed food, less meat, and less starchy food, but mainly that we should all be eating more plants. They are full of healthy fibre, promoting good bowel health. They have fewer calories than animal based foods making it easier to maintain a healthy body weight. And eating plants rather than animals is better for the environment. Give it a try and see how you feel! I am not suggesting that we all become vegan, or give up chocolate (or wine heaven forbid), but eating a plant based diet will give you more energy, and make you feel better.
If you focus on eating vegetables, rather than denying yourself pizza and biscuits, it all becomes so much easier. I want everyone to eat more plants, I am on a mission to change the way we eat!
